WaltherPark is a key project in Bolzano’s urban planning. Apartments, offices, a hotel and a shopping center with a food hall are being built in a central location between the main train station and the old town. Extensive changes are also being made to the surrounding area: an attractive new quarter is being created by reducing car traffic and redesigning green spaces, squares and promenades.

Architecture

Where esthetics and functionality meet

With the WaltherPark, David Chipperfield Architects has created a building that combines different functions in an outstanding way. British architect David Chipperfield is one of the most important architects of our time. His iconic designs continue to cause a stir internationally. In 2023, he will receive the Pritzker Prize, the most prestigious award in the architecture industry.

A new mobility concept for Bolzano

A new traffic tunnel will relieve the center of Bolzano from car traffic. Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to move much more freely around the WaltherPark. An underpass and an overpass near the Loreto Bridge will allow them to reach the city center more comfortably and safely from the banks of the Eisack.

WaltherPark is connected to the international and regional rail network via the train station. The bus stops at the station are served by 19 urban and 8 regional lines. We are focusing on e-mobility for private transport: car parking spaces and garages will be equipped with charging facilities for electric cars.

BAHNHOFSALLEE for pedestrians

Bahnhofsallee becomes a boulevard for pedestrians and cyclists. Südtiroler Straße and Perathoner Straße are only accessible to public transport and residents.

NEW ACCESS FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT

At the Garibaldistraße / Südtiroler Straße junction, dedicated lanes for public transport are being created.

A new Park

Alcide-Berloffa Park in the immediate vicinity of Walther Park is being completely redesigned.

UNDERGROUND ACCESS

Less air pollution and noise thanks to a new traffic tunnel to WaltherPark and the old town.

1,200 NEW BICYCLE PARKING SPACES

Additional parking spaces also for commuters arriving at the train and bus stations.

Location

In the heart of Bolzano

WaltherPark is located in Bolzano’s historic center, between the main train station and Waltherplatz, the city’s most important square. As part of the regeneration of the entire district, WaltherPark will become a magnet for visitors from the city, the region – and far beyond.
